FrameShift – Comic Room

The Concept

Step into the comic world – in real life

Black and white pencil drawings, and comic illustrations have always fascinated me. Comic room, inspired by the concept of comic drawings, is a visual installation that uses the body, distance, and motion sensors to simulate entering the world of black and white comic illustration. When the viewers enter the room, they face a frame or “portal” and see their live feed projected on the wall in front of them. When the viewer walks towards the portal, music slowly starts to play and when the viewer walks through the portal, the live feed projected on the wall is changed to black and white comic style illustration.

To create a familiar and fun environment for this installation, I used A-Ha’s iconic and popular “Take On Me” song to cue the viewers that they are “entering the comic/animation world” when walking through the portal.
